Charities

Unfortunately the inequalities in the world mean that there will always be room for charities. It is left to them to fill the often very large gap between the services provided by the worlds governments, and the needs of the people who are unable to look after themselves. Expectations of what the role of government vary greatly across the world and within individual countries. Interestingly, it is the societies who do not believe that it is the governments responsibility to look after the less fortunate in society, are also the societies who donate the most to charity. This is a reassuring fact. It would reflect poorly on a society that resented paying tax to cater for social welfare as well as donating a small proportion of their income. Jaro will be heavily involved many charities

Which charity

Let us assume that you have now decided that you want to give to charity; there are so many out there, how does one choose which charity? Here is a guide to the sorts of possibilities there are.

Disaster appeals

The obvious recipient of you charitable dollar is the obvious. When something bad happens in the world, the footage that streams into our lounge rooms tears at our hearts. These appeals for money are probably the most successful of all the solicitations that we are exposed to. They require immediate action, and they are temporary problems. Here at Jaro we would like to talk to Disaster appeals to investigate how Jaro and a range of disaster appeals can work together.

Foreign development

Similar to the disaster appeals, the foreign development charities show people in desperate need. To experience the smallest amount of dispair and deprivation that the developing world experiences every day would be intolerable to anyone in the western world. The problems might be caused by drought, war, or corruption, or any combination there of. There is a question of whether aid is good for these countries. Some have argued that aid money causes "Dutch Disease" as well as sometimes exacerbating corruption. Nevertheless, when crises occur aid is still required to prevent untold human suffering. Oxfam is an example Foreign development is an important part of every country's responsibility in the first world. Jaro will work to raise the amount of funds funnelled into this important area.

Medical research

Medical research is another very popular type of charity. Unlike the previous two, money donated to medical research funds remains in the first world. The popularity of this form of charity is due to the direct contact that people have with the suffering caused by disease. The rise in wealth of the first world has done much to alleviate many types of suffering even in the first world. Here there is no need for empathy to drive the desire to give. Money donated to a medical research fund helps to prevent someone else experiencing the pain that you yourself have felt in loosing a loved one. The National Breast Cancer Foundation is a popular medical research foundation. Any group of charities that enjoys popular support, will benefit greatly from the launch of Jaro.

Local poverty

Charities that help the poor, are perhaps the original type of charity. Services once provided by the church, are now performed by organisations often with a religious affiliation of some sort. The sentiment embodied in the phrase: "There but for the grace of God go I" is perhaps the basic motivation for these types of charities. Unfortunately, with the widening of the gap between the rich and the not so rich, there is increasingly the opinion expressed that the poor are poor because they somehow deserve it or that they have brought it upon themselves. This is perhaps the reason for a sub-category to have arisen, that of child poverty. The innocence of children absolves them of any blame, making them once again worth recipients of charity. Two well known australian charities in this category are Barnardos and Boys Town Jaro will raise the awareness of the need to support local poverty charities. Through Jaro, everyone will benefit.

General

Not enough? Karma Currency is a new web site that allows you go give charity gifts, to revitalize the philanthropic landscape in Australia. Many charities have benefited from this web site. You can find the largest recipients here. Jaro will have much in common with Karma Currency. However, Jaro will be so much more.

Wealth

If you have the money, what are you going to do with it. It has been shown to be surprisingly difficult to spend ridiculous amounts of money. We spend most of our lives coping with the fact that we have barely enough money to satisfy our needs and desires. It seems that for most people, it takes quite a lot of time to acclimatise to having a large amount of money. They literally don't know what to do with it. Here we want to give you a few ideas what to do with a ridiculous amount of money. Jaro may give you the chance. Keep reading and keep dreaming.

Luxury yachts

If one wanders the marinas of the Mediterranean one is struck by the size and number of luxury yachts. These floating mansions have numerous full time staff, paid to maintain, skipper, cater for and move the yachts to the desired port. What better way than this to dispose of all that excess cash. Even when you are not using it still costs money just to let it float. Here is a taste of what is on offer.

Private Jets

To the normal person it is hard to believe that someone can make a living selling things like private jets. Surely there are not enough people who can afford such things. Even then not everyone who can afford a private jet, buys one shrinking the potential market even further... And yet there are several companies that cater to this market. So if you have too much cash, why not keep them in business. Seriously, once you are that wealthy, you will probably not want to risk transiting through a public airport terminal. You can burn a lot of cash here.

Sports car

Now that you have invested in a private jet and luxury yacht, what are you going to do with the spare change in your pocket. You now need a sports car. The beauty of the sports car is that you can use it in the real world. After all nobody knows who is inside that huge yacht out in the bay. And if you want anyone to see your private jet (unless you include the enthusiasts who hang around the airfields) you will probably have to invite them on board. Everyone will notice when you turn up in your new Bugati Veyron at your local cafe. Buying one is difficult online, but you can start here.
